Smarter.com announced today that it will be launching a Chinese version of its P4P shopping search engine in Q4 2005. To support this international expansion, Smarter.com has moved more than 70 employees to a new 12,000 square foot office in the Huangpu District in Shanghai, China and hired two senior executives, Jessica Chen and Eric Zhang, to help manage the company's expansion in China.

I don't know much about this company elsewhere, so I wasn't sure whether this was news or not. It's hard to predict how a P4P system might work in China.

China's internet market seems very hot, but it is not really hot, the hot area are only among SMS, MMS, IVR and online games.

I wonder how smarter.com gain the profit in China on Product Price Comparison Search Engine market. In my point, the PPC model will not work in China.

Actaully, there are some big famous Product Price Comparison Search Engine in China already: 8848.com, SoASo.com

8848 gained investment from IDG early in 2002 to build the search engine, but seems not profitable, they are looking to sell it to www.zhongsou.com - said the 2nd biggest search engine in China after BaiDu. While ZhongSou.com seems much profitable, they tend to combine search engine and information portal.
