Hello,

This question is for those who have translated their sites into foreign languges.

After the translation is finished and your language sites are up and running, what kind of testing do you do?

What kind of problems do you run into usually? I heard text expansion and contraction is common; what about other problems?

I am writing a paper on this. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I try to access the site from other people's PCs to make sure that things are in order, or I'll ask people to check the site for me. Generally by the time I have a site open a lot of testing has already been done during the design phase, so I focus more on the content. Get native speakers to review the content.

Thanks Bill. Have you done any browser testing? If a site works well in Internet Explorer and then test it in Firefox or on a MAC? If you have, what is a typical thing that often goes wrong? Any screen shots of any kind that can be shared?

Thanks again.

Sure, I test in a number of browsers; Netscape, Mozilla, FireFox, Opera, Internet Explorer. I don't have a Mac, so I'll check things out on iCapture to see what the site will look like on Safari.

Any number of things could display differently depending on a design. I find that if I have a good standards compliant template and I keep things relatively simple design-wise, then there aren't many display discrepancies.
