In an article [australianit.news.com.au] from AustralianIT, it appears Yahoo Japan face a class action regarding auction goods not being received.

"A total of 572 people across Japan paid via Yahoo for auctioned items such as liquid-crystal televisions and digital cameras but did not receive the goods ..."

"Yahoo continued to let things happen while knowing about the fraud ..."

This could have far reaching consequences not only for Yahoo Japan, but also other online auction houses around the globe.

Oh yes, I saw it on TV the other day. I didnt receive my two sony PSPs that I paid for. Its not that I am naive. I buy on YJA for a living and buy lots of items almost on a daily basis but these two items never arrived at my door step. Lost about $700. YES, that was the price of a PSP when the con hit. I will be in line for my check.....if there is any.

Auction fraud in Japan is becoming a big issue. I'm not familiar with all the issues, but I've heard from Japanese who use the auction site that security could stand some toughening up. It's a bit too easy to commit fraud on the system from what they say.

The interesting part of the story is really the lawsuit. Japan only had a tiny number of lawyers just a few years ago, and now they're really in a rush to pump more of them out every year. The amount of litigation in Japan is really increasing particularly from consumers. I'll have to keep an eye on this one.

Keep us posted johnafrid.
