Welcome to WebmasterWorld jicun!

I would first check to see how many links those bad sites have compared to the better sites.

In general I know that Google's Chinese language SERPs have been criticized in the past. Several of our members from China have said that the Google SERPs are still not as good as those from Baidu. I'm afraid that Google is still playing catch-up with its Chinese language site.

Hello Bill,
How is this going on?
Do you speak chinese?
Can you give some suggestions on how to promote a chinese site?

As I can see some websites that do not close to the kw that I search, but it would still showed firmly on Top 3. The only one factor I can see is its large pageview.

But it really doesn't the one I would like to see.

Our site has very good info close to the topic, I want to optimize it to be in the Top 5, how can I do int this bad state?

Hi Aimee.

How is this going on?
My best guess is the same as redstorm's. Those sites have probably had quite a bit of SEO work done on them.

As I mentioned above, the number of links pointing to these sites can be a good indicator. A quick and easy way to boost rankings on SEs like Google is to get on-topic links to your site. The number and quality of links to your site plays a big factor in its ranking.

As I can see some websites that do not close to the kw that I search, but it would still showed firmly on Top 3. The only one factor I can see is its large pageview.
A lot of those ranking factors come from the pages that link to the page in question. The text surrounding the link and the keywords used in the link itself become factors in the ranking of the target page.

If you already have a good site about your topic then the next step is to get links. Try to get the sites that link to you to use your keywords you want to rank for. Just keep in mind that not all search engines put the same amount of importance on links. Many put stronger emphasis on the content of your page and site.

They have AdWords in Chinese, but you cannot pay Google for better placement in the regular SERPs.

Google is still the best known search engine in China. According to some friends of mine who are "white collars," they use Google for the most of the time. Sometimes Yahoo and less time Baidu.

Getting on Google in Chinese is easy and much easier to get ranked high.

As to serp quality, Google China and Baidu is well matched. The difference is that Google does not hand remove sites while Baidu does. Thus, Google is easily plagued by those naughty seo newbies employing spammy techniques such as signing guest books and blogs, keyword stuffing. Personally as a seo, I don't vote for Baidu, cause it's going overture way, you can pay your way out to the top. There are dozens of pages sponsored links in some competitive arena, which totally hides those small guys. However, as a searcher, It's RELEVANT. Considering doing seo for your Chinese site, I boldly say, "Optimize your Chinese site as your English site, you will be fine!" Keyword research maybe an obstacle for non native Chinese speakers though.
