According to this article [newsbytes.com], Thailand "may" be looking at adding other in-country domain registration points for the .th domain, probably through local ISPs.

"However, ThNIC Director, Kanchana Kanchanasut, said that she had not heard of any plans for a new domain name registry in Thailand."

Hmmm. Anyone thought from our Thailand members?

Another interesting point in the article goes to say that "the Internet was a network of cooperation, adding that it was essential that those in charge were not too commercially-oriented." Y'aint got no argument from me on that one!

Interesting. I personally haven't heard or read anything about it. But knowing how slow things can work here, it might be a while before a new independent (read non-governmental) body would be allowed into what is a controlled monopoly now. There would have to be some sort of financial agreement made between the parties (as is done elsewhere in the world).

Perhaps chiyo will be able to shed some more light on the subject for us.

Chiyo?

I think what they are getting at is letting the ISPs register the names through THnic. Thats my reading anyway.
