frankly, none of it really means much as there are so many factors that skew such metrics but....hey.... its their thing. ;)
ps: the real point is that cyworld (which I have mentioned) is and will continue to be a pain in Daum's side, imo. Cyworld is an INSANELY popular community feature....its like your own personal online world. Kinda like if SIMS, blogs and personal portals got together and mated. lol
It looks like someone is just playing with the numbers here (kind of like Alexa) to get these rankings. Is this a case of a new technology taking off? Is this just a flash-in-the-pan trend, or is it here to stay?
alright Grendel....now you've done it. What's Cyworld? How do you use it? What's it for? Is this one of those avatar chat worlds? 8 million members is nothing to sneeze at. lol! I swear that I posted about cyworld before or at least mentioned it. hmmmm...oh well. um..... its is not a chat thing. But it is close to an avatar thing.
Er.... as simple as possible:
Its frenster, sims, blog, avatar, portal, forum all mixed into one. Gee...did that clear it up? lol
Individuals can sign up (free) and can make their own little cyworld and invite others to see it and post comments etc. Functionally, its like a forum (I guess) that allows you to post pics and organize stuff THE WAY YOU WANT. And it has all those cutesy asian stuff to embellish it. Every person is able to customize it as they see fit with furniture, avatars, pictures, blogs, posts, rating etc. The main thing is the interactivity. Inviting friends etc to come into your cyworld and interact.
aside: once again, I wish this forum allowed for pic attachments. That's save me A LOT of typing all the time. GRRR. ;)
IMO (you heard it here first), I think this is going to be around for a while and, as I said, going to be a BIG problem for Daum--whose main bread and butter has always been its community CAFEs--unless they manage to monetize other parts of their portal well. They are already Over PPC partners and Big G web search providers.....
as for 8 millions members.... bah! ALL the portals have AT LEAST that (registration is required all ALL portal to anything but useful except search). But definitely take the ranking numbers with a grain of salt (alexa is the appropriate analogy).
