I have searched and searched and searched yet have been unable to find how to submit to the free part of ninemsn (for msn.com I'm comming up top but ninemsn is just screwy)

Does anyone know how to go about this?

James.

The free part of NineMSN?

As far as I know there is no free submission to NineMSN. You used to be able to get a little bit via zeal, but I think that is dead and gone.

Basically the search results in NineMSN are crap and the only reason it is so popular is because it is the default search in Windows.

Our sites coverage in it are from Inktomi submissions a while ago, but I don't think that is the best way to get in there now.

You can use Overture Site Match and limit your traffic to coming from Australian and New Zealand only.

This will get you into those results.

Can you show me an example of where this is working as this is a new feature?

I don't think it will - isn't it all just Looksmart?

Our sites show up in ninemsn from our Zeal listings.

I'm fairly certain NineMSN are still using Looksmart for their results. I have a few listings which are still the Looksmart listings we paid for quite a while ago. Does anybody know if NineMSN is looking to replace Looksmart results or do they still have a lengthy contract with them?

Currently Inktomi provides the results after the Looksmart results come to an end. I believe this is what Warren is talking about with the SiteMatch exposure (although I dont have an example)

Try a lengthy search term in ninemsn and you will most likely get Inktomi on the first page of results under "WEB PAGES".

Overture Site Match will get you into the nineMSN results, because the web results are still supplied by Inktomi.

I believe that nineMSN had a seperate agreement outside that of the US Looksmart, and still continues to use some results. The question is for how long? With Looksmarts assests being bought by Telstra's Sensis, it will be interesting to see what happens in this space.

I predict that Sensis will become a major player in the niche Australian search market, using their proven sales power from the Yellow Pages to gain significant market share - after all, look at the database they would have to mail out to!

I'm proud to NOT have my site listed in that good for nothing engine. Mr. Packer can <snip> monkeys.

I understand that the PPC at NineMSN is effectively the old Looksmart PPC, but it is currently provided by Sensis (who bought the Looksmart Australia assets) - and was alluded to in the Sensis press release.

Obviously, as NineMSN is a joint venture, they don't have to do 'exactly' what MSN does (and haven't so far) - the 2 partners get to decide what's best in the Australian market. So NineMSN have a decision - they have the choice between Overture (which is what MSN is using) and Looksmart/Sensis - what NineMSN have been using historically - and potentially any other player.

The timing on the PPC provider decision, according to the grapevine - is pretty sooon......
