A bit of Japanese webmaster advice...

...for the wife.

Hello, all : )

The wife and I have had a site up for around five months now, selling Zakka and other odd Parisian goods. Attendence is increasing a wee bit as my better half has been prowling the web for BBS's and sites where people interested in our product visit - but I am quite aware that this is just not good enough. My written Japanese is just not up to guff so unfortunately it's the wife's job to promote our site, but I am having problems convincing her of the right way to go about it.

I would be grateful if anyone could indicate a few resources for website promotion - in Japanese. Also it would be nice to know the more popular sites in Japan where I could post an ad - actually, any advice at all for making our (cough - her) site more popular to the Japanese market.

Thank you very much in advance,

Josefu.

With the amount of Japanese pages coming up for "SEO" on G these days, you should be able to track something down ;-)

It would be better if I could read the results though : P - my question has also to do with reliablility - a site that explains simply how to go about doing a web ad campaign/promotion. I don't think the wife knows enough about webmastering to judge the quality of a site so I'm hoping for the input from one who knows better : )

glengara's idea was spot-on...type in SEO in Google Japan and take a look through a few sites. There are plenty of "how to" sites that give basic overviews of search engine marketing in Japanese. If you don't want to use their services that's fine, but the more popular sites have a lot of general info for you as well as a pitch for their product/service. That's as good a place as any to start.

Another good place to look is the Japanese DMOZ directory, as well as Yahoo Japan's directory.

Okay, noted. Thanks guys. I was looking for a 'layman's easy guide to site popularity building' as my wife knows nothing of the SEO language - but I guess she's going to have to learn : )

Thanks again,

Josefu.
