Is Delhi the same as New Delhi

what's the difference?

Can somebody from India explain if Delhi is the same as New Delhi?

Hey Delhi and New Delhi mean same

Ofcourse delhi is used to refer to the old city.

New Delhi means the city which is newly constructed is the capital of Modern India.But this new delhi is constructed 25 years ago though.

There has been a move away from the old "English" names of many Indian cities

Bombay to Mumbai, and so on. Perhaps someone more qualified than I could give a list of say the top 10 changes.

Madras to Chennai,
Culcutta to Kolkatta.
New bombay to Navi Mumbai.

These what come to my mind.

Before I explain, there are 14 different languages spoken in India.
I personally know 3 ( Telugu, Hindi,Kannada )
OFcourse I know english.

Now coming to naming them like that, culcutta was misspelled and misprounced by british when they ruled india so the change to Kolkatta.( bengali word)

No Idea of others, never went into History though.But what I know is
(chennai is a word in tamil.)

Mumbai is a word in Marathi.
