I have a couple of questions about using Overture for the Japanese market.

Can I use the English language (US) site/interface to manage ads in Japanese?
(I am getting the feeling I cannot - You can now do this with Google Adwords)

I cannot find the minimum spend and minimum bid for Japanese (Is it the same as US)?

Is there a tool similar to the "View bids Tool"?
(I suspect it does not work in Japanese, judging by the keywords I have entered in Japanese)

Yes, according to what Overture Japan representatives have told me you can use any language they offer when viewing the DirecTraffic Center. That currently includes: English(US), English(UK), Deutsch, Français, Japanese, Korean, Italiano, Español. (see msg #:20 [webmasterworld.com])

The last time I checked Overture Japan's minimum bid was ¥35. I believe there is also a ¥10,000 deposit required to start an account as well.

Confirmed, min bid \35, min starting balance \10000.

Can you control where the ads show?

That is, there is no point in having Overture ads showing on Yahoo.co.jp when I can obtain the same ads via Google adwords for 20% of the price. I would only want the ads on MSN Japan and Goo, can this be done?

You can't do that with Overture or AdWords. (With AdWords you can turn syndication on/off, but you can't stop the ads from showing on their partner sites)

The original question was can you use Overture's english website for registering Japanese search terms. The answer seems to be yes. Is the same true for Google AdWords? Thanks - syncbyte

It seems that according to whats_up_skip that this is possible on AdWords. I have not tried this. A few years ago when I did try it , it didn't work. skip could you reconfirm this?

In the past you could not, but now it works fine.

Not sure exactly when it occurred, but I think it is less than six months.

I've been using the English interface for my Japanese site since February/03. Adwords seems to have fluent Japanese staff (in US?, based on reply times), who handle most of my questions.

I haven't used overture yet- still at 35yen minimums. Adwords starts at 7yen :)
