Anyone else seeing what I am at [yahoo.com.au ]?

I've seen this happen once before but it didn't last long, hopefully someone can confirm it.

In Japan I don't see anything weird. Looks more or less like the cache. What is wrong?

URL is redirecting to a web hosting site in the US. Have had someone else tell me they are also seeing it, so wondered if it was real or not! :)

The URL changed to: [au.yahoo.com...]
Is that what you mean?

Yes, that's what it usually does but now it redirects again to this web hosting site.

Not sure what Yahoo's set-up with datacenters etc. is like but I would have thought we are looking at the same site :).

I guess this is a quiet time of day on WebmasterWorld so not many members will see this if it is in fact real. I'd just like to know how this can be done ;).

Still don't see no webhosting site. What happens if you ping or tracert the site?

If I ping it, I see: au.rc.yahoo.com [202.3.14.152]

Since I'm behind a firewall, tracert is no option for me.

Pings and tracert same as yours, but still see the redirect to web hosting site though a browser.

This is a weird one!

Just wondered if you figured this one out. I see the same stuff takagi does from Japan. It sounded like you may have picked up some spyware that is redirecting you. Have you scanned your system with something like SpyBot or AdAware recently?

Looks normal from Sydney, perhaps Bill has the right idea.

I agree - Sounds like bill's got it.

If you're running WinDoze, check your hosts file.
It's usually at C:\Windows\hosts (no file extension)
Open it with Notepad or a similar simple text editor. If you see an entry for yahoo, or anything else you didn't add, delete it.

An alternative is to copy the MS-supplied sample file "hosts.sam" to "hosts", but you still need to make sure it is clean.

An entry reading "127.0.0.1 localhost" is OK, and should be present.

Running LavaSoft Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy (both freeware) when anything strange occurs on your machine is a good idea.

All looks normal in Melbourne too.

Just to keep this strange thread going :)

My hosts files were all clean - no problems with any dodgy spyware etc. The effect didn't last for long (overnight)and someone else in my town (using the same ISP) alerted me to it in the first place.

Is it possible that the source of the redirect was the ISP i.e someone hacked into their system and changed something? I have no idea if they run Windows servers or not but it wouldn't surprise me!

Would love to know what caused this but it's no big deal ;).

Just to close this thread - my ISP confirmed Yahoo Australia did have some temporary 'issues' during the time I mentioned. So there you go! ;)
