The standard referrer of google.yahoo.co.jp is no longer. Yahoo.co.jp has replaced it with websearch.yahoo.co.jp. This is probably done to reflect inclusion of results from other providers (Overture etc).

Did they actually ditch google or is their plan to fade out that they actually serve google results and they're the results of Yahoo...?

They still use Google search results but the only reference to Google is at the very bottom of the search results pages.

At the top of the pages the Yahoo Japan logo appears on the left side and banner adds in the middle. Most of the banners are advertising Yahoo products and services with the occasional non Yahoo banner appearing.

According to my log files the change to websearch.yahoo.co.jp occurred on 13/12/02

You probably remember the fight for Yahoo! Japan [webmasterworld.com] that ended with them deciding to go with both Google AdWords and Overture results...I think we're seeing a natural progression at Yahoo Japan where they're following the lead of Yahoo.com and de-emphasizing the prominence of mentions of Google throughout the site. In addition they have stated that they are leaving themselves open in terms of advertising strategies they will pursue in the future. So they're not just removing Google branding, but giving themselves room to maneuver in the future in terms of revenue streams. This is just an outward sign of that I think.

Good catch skip...
