While Google is the undisputed No. 1 Search Engine and Yahoo the best Directory on a global basis, which search engine & Directory resource is the most popular in Australia?

I heard some of them are powered by Google? Is that correct?

Any resource where one can get some info on the Australian Internet Scene. (how many ppl are online etc.)

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.

Best Regards,

Hi Hawk,

A great resource that I can recommend for you is the following:

Media Metrix - <snip - link no longer active>

The info is dated back to April but it should give you a fairly good idea of the top internet properties in Australia.

"Which search engine & Directory resource is the most popular in Australia?"

By the figures I would have to say NineMSN would be the most popular but that relies on your Looksmart listing.

"I heard some of them are powered by Google? Is that correct? "

Yes Anzwers has now been incorporating Google results for quite some time now. Yahoo Australia also uses Google for it's web page results section. Google itself is very popular and the site I work for gets approximately 5000 visitor sessions from Google alone. This should give you some indication of Google's importance as it is clearly the best search engine traffic provider for us.

Hope this info helps.

merlin78....

"...gets approximately 5000 visitor sessions "

What period are you talking about? I have been trying for some time to get an idea of typical traffic numbers on Aussie sites... We see lots of US site traffic numbers which of course are from a hugely different market size.

Would appreciate it if you can advise.

austtr,

Sorry I should have clarified that.
5000 visitor sessions from Google per week.
