I did a bit of search and to me it looks as if MAN.COM.MY pulling the data from the same sources as MSN.COM but biasing heavily towards Malaysian sites where possible. I am sure there is also a fair amount of cencorship going on of subjects that are taboo there.
For example, compare this search at MSN MY [search.msn.com.my] with this one at MSN COM [search.msn.com].
Malaysia displays a local site as #1 but thereafter the Directory listings are the same as US, infact, they are even labeled as "WEB DIRECTORY SITES (US)". Also the total found is the same, well, 1 off anyway.
I did a similar test with a more obtuse term and MSN.COM came up 200,000+ in all domains whereas MSN.MY came up with only 38, and local .my sites only.
So, I speculate the same databases are used but with some serious filtering, biasing, and cencorship going on.

Malaysia is not as bad in the censorship game re the Internet as other places. Malaysiakini, the independent malaysian news website still exists and has a high readership. Print media, is, of course, another matter! The Malaysian government does not allow Air Quality readings to be published and latterly the PM himself castigated the press for printing an article about KL's water quality. The rationale..? It gives people a bad image of Malaysia! That is why people dont trust the Malaysian print media or broadcast media, and have more trust in the Internet sources like Malaysiakini.
He He, sounds a little like Beijing, where the official temperature in Summer never goes over 30 degrees. The reason is that factory workers are allowed to go home with pay when the temperature goes over 30, so it never does. Well, thats what was happening a few years ago, it may have changes since.
Thanks for the input Chiyo, and my apologies if I came on too strong about Cencorship in Malaysia. I just know there are some taboo subjects over there and it was obvious from my searching that these subjects have been filtered out rather effectively.
Cencorship is an interesting issue, too much or too little can both cause complaint from the masses. Of course we have it here as well, just in different forms.

No offense at all. My feeling is that the MSN/government relationship is strong, and I would not at all be surprised that pressure is brought to bear on MSN Malaysian SERPS through the usual chatty-chatty nod-and-wink say-no-more!. And it seems you have found them which is interesting in itself..
As a long time resident of Malaysia I would have to take exception to that statement. IMO (and that of most that I have talked to) it is one of Malaysias most resounding failures.
The press may be good, but visting the new township built to serve the MSC and seeing the half finished buildings and grass growing up through the cracks in the roads, gives a different impression altoghther.
