Japanese social networking site Mixi Inc.'s Mixi beat Google Inc.'s Google.com in terms of site page views in Japan in May, according to data released on Wednesday by NetRatings Japan Inc.
...
Top-ranked Yahoo Japan accounted for just over a quarter of all page views and online shopping mall Rakuten was in second place at three percent. Google, which trails Yahoo considerably in Japan, was ranked fourth by NetRatings with 1.2 percent of all page views.
Page views may not be the best comparison in this case, but that is the factor being used in this article to determine popularity. Portal sites by their nature will generate more page views than an SE. A good SE should get you the information you need and get you off their site as quickly as possible. Regardless it was interesting to see the standings presented here.

I'm not sure what they consider pageviews- as infoseek japans deafult search uses results are from google.
Is a search result a pageview? If so, how much of infoseeks and other "portals" pageview results are actually google fed? This could easily push them up to #2.
Still impressive for mixi though- never heard of em before!
Nice glamour shot of the Representative Director ;) Uncle Rico?

I'm not sure how they're gauging page-views here. It's very likely that page-views for outsourced SERPS aren't included in the mix.
