Japan - Skype local numbers

Looks like Skype in combination with Fusion are now offering call in numbers in Japan- 050.

A little late for me, but maybe useful to some of you.

BTW- There's a check box to make sure you are a resident of Japan.

What are the call in numbers? Like you get assigned a 050 number, and when someone in Japan calls it, it rings your skype?

Good catch David. This has been a long one in the making. It adds a much needed service for many in Japan. I too wish they'd had this service a bit earlier. I finally folded and got VoIP phone from my fiber optic ISP just recently. I'm not sure the SkypeIn service in Japan will be as attractive for me now. Has anybody tried out the service?

I finally got a real SIP based VoIP Tokyo number working. It supports two channels (like lines), but can be expanded to support many. Being SIP based it integrates properly into our Asterisk PBX, meaning we can route the calls to Japanese speakers in the office. We can even get it to show on the handset that the call is coming in is Japanese.

Voxbone supply these and they now have POP in New York for better performance in USA and Australia.

You don't have to be a Japanese resident, setup is US$12 and then US$14.50 per month. Normally you have to pay a bond for a phone number in Japan. You don't pay for incoming call time.

I found one other company offering Tokyo numbers, but I think they are just reselling the Voxbone product.

There are many problems with Skype (security, bandwidth, CPU load, non-standard) and it is very difficult to integrate with standards based office PBX.
