busy morning :/ meant to report this earlier...

Rumors have circulated about a Yahoo buyout or yahoo buying other guys, KT buying someone...and well other combinations and permutations....

here's another one on the list that is a bit more further along (so it seems):

South Korean Internet companies fix their eyes on Empas, the nation¡¯s mid-tier Web portal having unrivaled technical prowess, to survive in an increasingly competitive domestic market. ....

Market observers Wednesday said KTH, which operates the nation¡¯s No.5 portal Paran, is leading the efforts to gobble up Empas followed by other players such as SK Communications and CJ Internet.

Article [times.hankooki.com]

but the end result is the same.... M&As are gunna happen or tier 2/3 portals aren't going to survive. The end result.... I agree with the predictions.. probably only gunna be two maybe three to be left standing...

Naver, Daum, M&A-ed company... and Nate (though I see nate a bit different in terms of category).

so sayeth GrendelKhan{TSU} :p

PS: Yahoo is still a big? as well.... but that's another story (see other threads).

oh yea... and Google. :p

they are not a player here now, but they are ramping up now full force... remains to be seen what kind of direction they will go in...though competing 1v1 with the portals here doesn't seem to be a smart move and "just existing" doesn't cut it as it has elsewhere. so its not outta the question for them to think about just gobblin up one of the smaller portals or other type site.
