Does that exist?

I've just read through a dozen posts on this forum about .jp and .co.jp domains, gone through a number of sites of registries in English and attempted to go to a few in Japanese, and am coming up with a cost for a two-year rate of $200 for a .jp and $400 for a .co.jp?!?!

Is there any rate better than that?

That's probably about double of what I've seen on some of the more popular English language sites. You can certainly get lower prices, but sometimes you have to put up with Japanese language interfaces, not all of which are very user friendly (even for people who understand Japanese), for the cheapest of the cheap.

You're getting charged higher rates for the usage of the registrar's local address in most cases. .jp names require an address in Japan. If you don't have one, then you have to rely on the registrar to lend you theirs.

Check out a few of the Japan based registrars from the ICANN-Accredited Registrars list [icann.org]. That should have a few with lower prices than you mentioned.

Here is the list of accredited registrars on the Japan Registry Services [jpshop.jp] site. That page is in Japanese though.

Try jp-domains.com - they have the cheapest English-language pricing I've seen and I use them for most of my regs.
