I've read that it's possible to get group-like benefits through professional organizations, either:
- design/illustration nat'l orgs
- self-employment nat'l orgs
- local chamber of commerce
I've also read that nat'l design orgs don't offer these plans because artistic field are a 'high-risk group', so maybe that's out.
What are people's experiences? Do you use any of the above, or an independant policy?
(I'm young, no pre-existing conditions or risk factors ie smoking, no kids to think about - highly insurable I would think!)
My Father pays over $600 a month as a healthy man in his mid fifties.
IMO the system is broken.
I pay $600 a month for a family of four, and I would also like to lower my bill. I have looked into the National Association of Self Employed. They have some pretty cheap plans, but don't come near the level of insurance we have now. It seems NASE would only be good for my family for Major Medical. I have seen that Costco offers insurance in some states, but in washington at least, it only works if you have one or more employees.
Let me know what you learn.
