How soon do you see changes after tweaking pages, links, etc?

Now that the hoopla and noise from BigDaddy is over I think it's time to get back to the basics.
If you have an established (not "sandboxed") site how long does it take for your rank to change after adding a new link(s) or tweaking your content? Is there any pattern?
