Advantages/Disadvantages of using blog to promote any website

Hi,
I know that Google likes fresh content & with blog we can provide fresh content very easily.

Lets suppose that there is website in which we can't add any keyword rich content because of its web design. In order to rank in search engines, I created a blog in which i will regularly post a article or entry having some links to the website.
And also promote it by submitting it to various blog directories & exchanging links with relevant blogs.

But my confusion is that, will this blog be considered as spam. Will it harm the website?

If anyone knows about it, then please help me.

Only Google know which websites they consider to be spam, but if you actually put real content in the blog and try to make it useful for your visitors, you should be reasonably safe.

Thank you Nybo for replying. I agree with you that its google who decides which website is spam. The content in the blog will be fresh content & will be relevant to the topic, but it will be having a link in between of a content to my website. So will it be harming my website.

My take on this...if the link from your blog is for the purpose of pointing to deeper content on another site (and this content is on your site)...then a link is probably appropriate here...but where you get in trouble is when you start thinking about will this link help me rank better...

Concentrate on what is positive for your visitor base from a usability perspective...and your site(s) should be okay...but it does come back to which algo variables are being tweaked at the plex at any given time...so what you decide to do today...(especially as a "SEO" strategy...could come back to haunt you in the future)...

In my opinion the blog will get good rankings, but it won't help the website. Google wants to direct people to the content, not to websites that got a link from a blog with that content.
