I'm considering making another website but using a template from another website of mine.

I was curious if Google considers templates to be duplicate content?

Only if the content as opposed to the code is duplicated ;)

Well the subject of the site will be completely different so I wont be dupping content :)

So Google doesnt count html code as duplicate content if it sees the same graphic names and sizes and table locations?

For my main site, I took a superb XHTML very light , fast template and made it even lighter and faster. All pages are less that 20k and validate.

I have no ranking problems on Yahoo or MSN.
Google is another story but that is improving and a problem caused by other things, not template related (I changed directory structure and all pages got indexed twice and I can't get the old ones dropped)

To answer your question, write good content, don't worry about the code (as long as it validates and is light).
