Hi, I'm new here, and I had a quick question.

I've got 2 blogs that have pagerank 5 for their main pages, and I find that i get what appears to be odd traffic.

I get people searching for what I think are unrelated topics coming to my sites. In other words, what I think i'm seeing from google is, "i have a decently ranked website, and posts from a few months ago have good performance against certain keywords, even if that's not the focus of my site."

I know pagerank isn't the be-all, end-all of SEO, and i'm not even trying to rank highly on these searches. But, I'm seeing that once I have a decently pageranked site, I just get the searches.

Does this sound right? I think it's because the keywords in question are part of my <title> tags.

Anyway, the adwords on my site still show up with ads related to my site, which is probably NOT what people were looking for when they clicked on my site from google.

Is there any way to possibly monetize this better?

I have seen similar with my site. I'm running a small bussiness in Scandinavia with local domain, making my own unique products (I like to belive I'm alone for some of my solutions). This pages are of course unique of same reason.
At the same time I'm an affiliate for some add on products.

Now I have seen less visitors from my own country searching for my unique products.
I have seen that visitors are visiting fewer pages (which means I get "wrong" customers?).
I have seen that I'm still at page 1-2 for most keywords on the local serp.
But now I'm no.1 at page 1 on .COM for my affiliate products, even I don't even try to rank high (which unfortunately means I outrank the manufacturer).
For that reason I have a large growth of international visitors.
But visits for my own products and from local customers are less than for long time.

I guess this means that Google will loose customers as the visitors no longer finds what they are searching for.

jmatthew3,

welcome to WebmasterWorld!

right now google is listing sites in an order, some WebmasterWorld members are calling "broken".

However: "is there a way to monetize better"?

There is always a way, the question is how long is that way and what are you willing to walk?

:)
