#1 result does not have the keyword anywhere - how can that be?

In a search today, using a single word, the #1 natural result did not have the search term anywhere within its content, domain, title or description. How is this possible?

Hello Praetor, and welcome to the forums.
In Google search results, the keywords may also be found only in links that point to the page. Click on the "cache" link and you will often see that explanation at the top of the page.

Thanks Ted,
The message displayed was:
These terms only appear in links pointing to this page: safelists
Relevancy does seem to be out the window. The site in question has nothing to do with the term. Google sometimes gives me "heartburn".

It's like a Google Bombing, but natural, isn't it?
Try this one : -http://www.google.com/webmasters/faq.html does not have the word "cloaking" inside, but is still the #3 on Google for the word.

Yes and try typing miserable failure into google and see what comes up. At least those results are true :)

This happens all the time with us. Many of these loser scraper sites will copy all the content off our site, and they often show up higher ranked in Google with searches of a unique sentence off our site.
The do it with .php files, that feed Google's crawler when in lands on their site.
