Does Google dislike multiple websites on the same server?

Does it matter how many websites are hosted on one server?

I am wondering if Google lowers importance of a site in any way if there are multiple domains hosted on one server (sharing IP's and not sharing IP's). Not everyone can afford their own dedicated server but if you do have a dedicated and then place several different websites on it, does Google have issues with it?

To me it seems silly that they would possibly care about something like this as most sites are on hosts with multiple domains. So what difference would it make if it was a dedicated server with multiple domains or a regular host.

I guess I thought I read this somewhere and it is concerning me. If anyone knows if something like this is real or could clarify on what I might have seen somewhere about it, I would appreciate it. If it's just a myth, that would be even nicer to know. :)

Berry, from my experience, a "clean" IP number can help to rank faster (if all other parameters are right) if you put a new site into a certain class-c network. If you run around 250 sites with 1,000s of black hat pages on one IP, google can (and has) kicked complete IP networks.

If you talk about a few clean domains on one IP: not a problem, but do not interlink like a greedy maniac :-)

cheers,
P!

Hi pontifex,

Thank you for the helpful response. None of the sites are black hat or spammy sites so it sounds like we would be fine then. I was worried that any sharing was just not going to be acceptable.

I take it from what you say that if a site or two are related they can link but a big ole ugly network is evil.

Cheers,
