Does keyword rich domain name play any role while ranking in Google specifically? Which strategy is better- A keyword rich domain or a domain that is easily rememberable?

A keyword rich domain name benefits indirectly: when people link to you they are much more likely to use those keywords in the link text, thus boosting those keywords for searches. There's clearly some boost from this, so if you just have a non-descript adsense site that you want to depend solely on SE traffic, this may be your path.
If you want repeat visitors and people really using and appreciating your site it's probably best to go for the short memorable name. Easy to spell being a bonus.

I agree with the above comment but I would like to add that it's also url related. So if your domain is simple abc.com the url abc.com/rich/keywords.html will be as good as having it in the domain name itself.
