Does google see PDF files as duplicate content?

Are pdf files with identical content harming my site?

Hello, I have a question about how google scans PDF files.

I have a number of products that have data sheets explaining the properties of the product. A single data sheet might cover several products.

Because of the way I have my site setup, I will rename a single pdf file for each product on it's page.

Does google see this as duplicate content? am I actually harming my website by trying to distribute the information in this manner?

Multiple copies of a PDF, whether on the same or different sites, will be seen as a duplicate of each other. Most will get filtered out of the results. One or two may hang about as Supplemental Results.

A PDF copy of a newsletter and the HTML version of it will generally not compete with each other.
