Hi all,

I've come accross something very odd with my search results for my own sites listed in Google.

I have 4 sites which are geared towards certain financial services. I used to be on the 1st page in google, and sometimes the 2nd page. All of a sudden, i was getting no traffic to my site from people searching on Google, and wondered what was going on. I had posted something in here last year about this, and originally thought that i was no longer listed in google. I've now discovered that if i keep clicing 'next page', my 4 sites are listed way way down the line on something like page 60 of the search results. I cannot figure out why? I dont spam on my site, so didnt think it was a penalty for something. In any case, i thought google remove the listing altogether if one puts spam content on their website?

Can anyone help? - i have been building inbound links to my site over the years, which i thought would help. Some of these inbound links are from off-topic sites (not adult sites). Could inbound links from non-related sites cause the my listing to go way down the line? - i do also have many inbound links from on-topic sites too by the way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Here are some threads to check for ideas:

Dropped from Google - a checklist to find out why [webmasterworld.com]
Dropped Site Checklist [webmasterworld.com]

i thought google remove the listing altogether if one puts spam content on their website?

Not always -- sometimes you just get a penalty that drives the listing lower. And sometimes you unintentionally use a method that looks like you were trying to trick Google.

Thanks Tedster,

I will have a read of those threads. BTW, in your experience, if it does turn out to be something i've accidentally done, and i reverse it, will my rank eventually automatically go up? or would i have to write google some 'begging' letter?

thanks again.

If you correct an "error" you may go back up automatically.

Thanks for the advice. I shall get reading those other threads and post back my results at a later time, of the changes i may need to make to my sites.
