I was wondering how can google know about a new site being launched and indexes that site one day. Please note that a link from another site can be an easy way out but what if the site don't have anything like that?

1. Domain name registration and periodic visit from a bot to the root page.

2. A user (ie you or another developer) visiting the site with an installed Google toolbar or some other kind of interaction with google (such linking to Google).

You may want to look at your access logs to see who was visiting your site before it was launched.

Domain name registration

Does google keep a record of the domains that are registered just like whois? Can you please be more elaborative. I can understand the second point though I am assuming that no one except me and my friends are aware of the site.
