The competition never suffer.

the last time there was a large update on G (jagger ieblieve it was called) we plumeted in the serps but our main competition stayed around the top, and, sites that rarely get good rankings came to the top.

yesterday afternoon the same has happened. we have shot down for some of our strongest keywords, yet our competition has stayed strong.

i have noticed that the number of results that G returns has practically doubled, but, i shouldnt think that was a problem.

we run an honest site and source our own content.

has anyone else found this problem or can anyone shed any light on the matter.

If somebody else is rising & you're following...

imitate what seems to be the working elements of their strategy. A holistic approach should ensure that one update to the next, your site(s) or client sites should always be going up & to the right.

I believe it is normal for Google to drop a bunch sites and have a bunch of them come back to their original places months later.

I don't believe Google can handle all of the data so some sites suffer and others don't.

With the complexity of today's algo, honest sites can create honest problems for themselves -- but still they are problems. All it takes is something as innocent as a "custom 404" that actually returns a 200 status. Do check out the ideas and experiences shared in those threads.
