What Is Relevancy to Google?

I have some pretty strong opinions about what relevancy means, though I’ve taken some hits from other SEOers as of late, so I thought I’d put this up for discussion.

In my own opinion relevancy means

  1. In addition to using key words and phrases on a page, using related words and phrases that one would expect to find in a naturally written paragraph.

  2. Maintaining a theme throughout a website that includes relevant and associated key words and phrases throughout your website’s text, titles, alt, meta, etc.

  3. Having relevant keywords in your inbound links anchor text

  4. Having inbound links from sites with associated topics.

I could add more to this list, but I’d like to know what you think is relevant and why.

I don't know what relevancy is with Google.
A person can use your four examples of relevancy and still not rank in the top 1000 even if their pagerank is 5-6.
The Jagger update and the updates after did something to get rid of the old keys of relevancy.
Either Google is flushing their index to rebuild or is making seoing a enemy.

Age I think is #1 these days.

All four are very good indicators of relevancy to me. Where I disagree is the level that Google actually places REAL world on relevancy, as I sure don't see it making a huge impact on sites in the Serp's.

After content, I would think relevancy is #1 with Google or should be.

What could anybody think of G results if they search for Cave Exploration and most results
are about the Moon?

Google does a pretty good job as I see it, not perfect but way better than others.
On Google, if you search for UFO thats mostly what you get, flying saucers etc.
In the other major engines, you get a lot about rock groups, folklore, motorcycle parts,
TV shows, Japanese social clubs, country music, even blue jeans .. its just awful. -Larry
