Title Tags a bit weird

Are the title tags being modified by Google?

hi
Have been observing this quite lately, the title tags of a few sites in the SERP's are not what they are appearing in the actual sites page.
A few big sites listed out there had only the site name in the SERP, instead of the page title.
Went on to research what actually was happening, and discovered an interesting fact, the titles in the SERP's were identical to those for which the pages wer listed in DMOZ. But amazingly the page the description was not.
Have any of you noticed the same? What could possibly be the reason?

So you're seeing the DMOZ title rather than the page's title element? Is this for a Home Page or a deeper page -- or both? In any case, it's something I haven't noticed -- thanks for mentioning it.

It is for the home page. I have observed this for a few keywords in Google for the search query "heavy music" there are sites showing the dmoz title. for the keyword "greetings" there are more than one sites in the SERP showing the DMOZ title.
Just give it a check.
