google question - registering an expired domain

I haven't test this, so i would like to know from webmasters who already know about this.
when a domain expires, google delete its index and links pointing to that site do not count anymore.
if you register an expired domain will google consider it as a new domain or will google consider it as an established domain because of its age? anyone? thanks in advance.

Can't find any exact reference, but a while ago Google registered with ICANN as a registrar.

This move was quite universally read as a way to have better info on changes of domain ownership.

Buy a domain without expiring. Then you will have the PR. If you register a expired domain then PR starts at 0.

As you say, Google goes to the trouble of tracking expired domains, discounting existing links and zeroing the PR. It stands to reason they would also reset the clock on the age of the domain and any of its pages.

I'm not sure whether I am correct however I seem to remember someone buying an expired domain name that they never knew had previously existed which had an Adsense ban against it and they didn't find out until after they applied for an account and were declined.

I think the OP was referring to search engine optimization only, but that is an issue and anyone taking over a domain might consider emailing Google before running AdSense on it.

I would recommend against registring an expired domain.

I registered a great domain months ago that I wonder how would it be available, just to find that there is some strange google penalty stuck to it.

If you ever want to register an expired doman I suggest you to take a look at the web archive time machine; it gives a good idea about what was the domain/site about.
