It's been happening for few days now, sometimes when I search site:example.com I get 89 pages, couple of minutes later the same search will give me 27 pages. Has anyone else experienced the same? and do you know what’s going on?
Thanks.

Yes, I have been seeing a flux like that all day long.

So, what's going on?

What does this mean? Another update?

sites I watch are changing, looks like a backlink update is happening or about to happen.

Google are testing multiple indexes, different indexes spread across the various datacentres. When you hit google.com you hit a random datacentre. Your next search may be from a different one altogether.

.

They also have multiple (or incomplete?) datasets at single IPs, such that if you keep hitting refresh at, say, 66.249.93.104 then you get a different result almost every time too. That is new in the last few weeks.

I've checked couple of other sites and the same thing happens. And it's not only for site: searches, link: search has the same problem. Looks like this is affecting everyone.
