Sorry for the newbie question, but up until now I have always used webalizer to check my usage statistics. I assume it takes the info from a raw file somewhere? I was poking around my domain via FTP and can't find any raw log files!

I see refs from;

images.google.com/imgres
google.com/search

but how do I check how often googlebot hits my page?

Thnx in advance

Check to see if your host has Awstats available to turn on. Mine has it but you have to turn it on in the control panel.

My apache server log is a level up from my root directory. It's visible via ftp.

Is your site on Apache, or the other bunch? Maybe you're just not finding them? At any rate, you need to be able to dl them yourself, so you can run them through the analyzer of your choice, configured the way you want it. If it turns out that you truly don't have access to the logfiles, consider changing hosts at some point.
