Any Reason Why?

Hi,

I've noticed an interesting trend in my pages in Google recently. Google is beginning to show "index of" type pages for virtually my entire site. As I have a large site/directory structure, the number of these "index of" type pages that is listed in Google is now quite large.

So my question is, why is Google even finding/listing these pages? I've never had this problem before and my site has been in Google going on 4 years now. I also can't find any "index of" type pages for my site in Yahoo/MSN, so I can't help think that this is some sort of strange Google Buy.

And lastly, is there something that I can do on my end to get rid of these "index of" type pages?

I'm not having this problem for the home page, obviously, since the page is called "index.htm". But in all my other directories (and there is many of them), I do not have any "index" pages - thus allowing google to find the "index of" type page that is generated off the Linux Server I use.
