I have a new site having good content.A fairly good number of link exchange is also done. It has got listing from quite a few good sites. I would like to know, approximately how much time would it take to get indexed for the first time?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld. [webmasterworld.com]

It can vary, but you should plan on about 6 to 8 weeks. Anything prior to that is a bonus.

one thing that can dramatically speed this up in the number and quality of incoming links from outside sites.

Get a few good links from related sites and there's a good chance you'll be indexed much faster.

I have just had the first 35 pages of a new site I set up three weeks ago appear in google today - it has a few good quality inbound links - this has been the same pattern for most other sites launched in the last year.

I also use google sitemaps, but doubt it makes much difference.

I dont participate in reciprocal linking to/from the sames sites and have a few other sites I return links from (if I must)- this has always worked for me.

I pretty much agree with the 6-8 weeks timeframe as mentioned by the earlier post above.

Hope that helps ;)
