Hey there,

Just noticed that one of my sites has had a sudden 2000-odd drop in page count for "site:mysite.com", from 11,600 to 9,400. No re-directs or anything in place. The "actual" page count should probably be about 2000. Is this a sign of Google doing some housework? Anyone else seen anything similar?

P.S. Merry Christmas + Happy New year!

Yes, there have been several reports of this kind of fluctuation -- especially from members who watch the different data centers closely.

I don't watch data centers closely, though I regularly do a "site:" check on G for various sites I manage. All I know is that this site has had 11,000+ "indexed" pages for some time and suddenly 2000 are gone. My only recent intervention on the site is to add some unique descriptions/keywords for a load of dynamically driven pages. Perhaps that has sparked the clear-out of older non-existent pages(?)
