Other kw searches resulted in our actual home page and content from the home page.
Does anybody know the conditions for when the directory entry is returned vs the actual home page content?
.. No
The search was of the form "Ajax tools" where one word in the phrase is a brand name and the other word was of a generic nature.
One word of the phrase (brand name) comes from the home title, the other from the text of the directory entry.
Our G directory entry, by the way, consists of the title from our home page with the text description from DMOZ.
When you do a general (not directory) search with the phrase, the directory entry is returned. The cached version (very recent) shows our home page which does not contain the text returned from the general search (i.e. the DMOZ directory text). Most of the individual DMOZ words are found on the home page, but not the exact DMOZ description as is shown on the general search results, so you cannot find the exact text that G returned on the general search.
Not complaining (would love to see more of us on 1st page search results). Just wondering what role the Google directory plays in general search results and what if anything triggers the result(s).
