Google Links don't show up

Why don't all links show up on google?

When I search for my 6 month old web address [i.e. [widgetinfo.co.uk]...] and google offers me the usual options:

Show Google's cache of
Find web pages that are similar to
Find web pages that link to
Find web pages from the site
Find web pages that contain the term

If I press the "Find web pages that link to", I get no links shown. If I press the "Find web pages that contain the term" it registers hundreds. These are mostly rubbishly link machines, but I also have some highly respected BBC & Local Government links inward which are not being considered also.

Does anyone know a way of getting these sites registered as quality incoming links. I don't have to link back to them as I hadn't ever approached them for a link, they just thought I could help their visitors.

1 of the incoming link pages is a PR7, sometimes higher ... so pretty sure it could do me some good if it would only get picked up.

Many thanks

Colin

Google does not show you all the inbound links they have indexed. In fact, they often don't show the high PR pages. All they show is a sampling, and they even show none sometimes when it's clear that they have index some.

If a page is PR7, you can bet that Google sees it and spiders it regularly. I would have no concern, as long as the link is a straight html link and not being sent through a script of some kind.

Colin, Google knows all about your links as soon as you get them, they don't miss a trick. But they don't want you (or anyone else) to know what they've got, so they broke the link: command.

The links don't show up because they don't want them to. :)

If you really want to see what they see run...link: mysite.com with a space between yhe: and site. Or go to yahoo and run linkdomain:mysite.com

Using a space between link: and mysite.com simply searches for pages that contain those words in text. It is not a link search, although obviously it will show you many sites that link to you and have your URL on the page. Many times though, the URL is mentioned but without a link.

Many thanks all,

I was just concerned that I might be missing out on some valuable PR. I've had time to thumb through the pages of sites that have my address listed and there are only 5 biggies or PR6 - PR8. Does anyone know how much credibility these sorts of links carry ... one of them is an index page link, the rest are local service pages in the background.

Also, with the site only being about 6 months old and with only a few competitive keywords listed, do you think that it may be sandboxed for a further 3 months and then pick up?

Cheers All

Texasville [Or go to yahoo and run linkdomain:mysite.com]

Have tried this now and Yahoo have listed all the goodies in the first page plus a couple of thousand others (mostly rubbish), but only on the non UK & USA. The European searches have an updated title tag and full listings of incoming links.
