PR of expired domain

Hello folks,

I have made a mistake: did not renew the domain with the PR5 ranking (of course now I desperatly want it back LOL). Currently the domain is not used by anyone and its status in the registry is the "redemption period".

So, my question is this. Would the domain retain its PR if I register it as soon as it gets out of the redemption period?

depends on the registrar. ie. if they allow it to expire then re-register it or if they simply renew it.

I have another question. The domain name expired on September 29th, 2005. The hold period is 2 months. So, September 29th plus 60 days is November 29th. Today is December 5th but the name is not yet released... What can be the problem? Is there any authority that can be contacted and asked to relase the domain name?

try contacting the registrar listed in the whois search for that domain, Ask them that are interested to buy that domain, I did this before and they immediately responded,

Or it can simply be that someone else has backordered or bought the domain, Confirm with the current registrar of that domain,

I recently had to deal with a similar situation. After seeking the interweb for advice I decided to try and pre-order it on www.pool.com - I evetually got the domain back, but it cost me $500. The reason for this is I think 2 things:

#1 By pre ordering it with Pool they know I want it and buy it off me.

#2 No I cant be sure about this, but, I suspect that once they have it, and they know you want it then you will find yourself in a bidding war, with someone else who wants it. Now, to be honest I began to get the feeling I was bidding against a bot of some sort.

So the question is - do you declare your intention to buy the domain and put yourself in a position where it will cost a premium. Or do you hope it goes under the radar?

If it has pagerank it will certainly be bought by Netster or similar so they can continue spreading their disease.

I had a similar incedint where a PR4 .info domain of mine was expired. Once I pre-ordered it and its redemption period has expired I was asked for hundreds of dollars.

I agree on that this might be a sort of bidding bot involved.

Surely, I totally forgot about that domain. Afterall, I am not used to have my arm twisted :)

If it is in redemption period then you can still renew it?

there may be an excess charge for the administration, but if you want it, that is certainly the safest way to make sure.

I would not recommend waiting until it expires, if it has any value then you can be sure it will be taken before you can whistle dixie ;-)

trying to back-order also alerts people to it's existance as the server continues to ping for changes, that request is noted. Also given that back-ordering is no guarentee anyway...

Pay the excess and secure it now IMO or be prepared to let it go .. you could take the chance I suppose ..

I just realised you may be saying that it is in someone elses hands in redemption?

So personally I think back-ordering is just a con, you probably stand a better chance by continuing to check it yourself.. given that it will be missed.. that is your best chance.. otherwise if it is of interest you do not stand a chance, there are far too many experienced big players on the market now who know how to play the game.

The current status is REDEMPTIONPERIOD and this means that the domain will soon be deleted from the registry and will become once again available to the public.

Yes, I can renew it at this point, but it will cost me at least 400 dollars and I am not sure that it is a very cost efficient option for me.

The name of the domain is not one of those high-demand keyword names. When I chose the domain name I go for the "brand" not "popularity" name and this domain is simply mylastname.com. So, I could hardly see any reason for anyone else but me (or ppl with the same last name) to want this domain.

I think that my best option is to wait and see what will happen. According to my research, the domain will be deleted from the registry within the next week or so. And even if I will not get it back, then it is not that big of a deal :-).

You might be asking: why did not this guy renew the domain in the first place? Well, I live in Canada, the purpose of the Web site is purely educational (no e-commerce), and I wanted to go with the .ca domain instead of .com

Frankly, I thought that because I used all the same tactics with the new domain, it would get the same page rank as the old domain in a matter of months (the expired domain got its PR5 in little more then 7 months). But.......... the new domain still sits at PR0 and I have not a slightest idea of why...

.... Sad story.... The current status of the domain is PENDINGDELETE... I have checked the link popularity and the pagerank for the domain and was shocked to see that all the incoming links were dropped by all the search engines and the page rank went from 5 to zero.

So, contrary to many posts on this forum, my domain did not retain its page rank...

So sorry that the ending was not a happy one for you. I say, "when one door closes, another one opens". Perhaps putting the time and energy into another site will pay off and if you had put it into the old site, you wouldn't have had time to jump head first into the next site. Good luck to you!
