Hi

I'm in the middle of a bit of a discussion with colleagues regarding the hosting of our web sites.

We have a number of web sites selling the same product and we are responsible for a website each, trying different methods of selling our product. The content is more or less unique on each web site.

Currently we have them all hosted on the same dedicated server, sharing the same IP address. Tthe question is (as Google supplies most of our traffic) would Google see that as some sort of spamming technique and identify that the similar web sites are all hosted on the same IP address and possibly penalise us?

I tend to argue that hosting companies host thousands of website probably providing similar products/services and that to ban based on IP address would be wrong.

Does anyone have any comment or experience on this?

I have seen hundreds of sites on the same IP address with many of them doing fine. If it isn't broken, I wouldn't fool with it. Since they're all your sites (correct?) then you control the neighborhood and should have no fear. But if you want to get "experimental" with one of your domains, then that's another story.

Thanks Tedster, that's what I thought. If Google started analysing the type of business on each IP address then it could get messy with ISP's.
