I know I should wait till after the update and pray for my 2 sites to get re-indexed.....has anybody else lost a site or more during this update?
Does anybody have a past experience, similar to above, they could share? Moreover, how long did it take to get re-indexed, if at all? And was there any method carried out, other than just waiting around?
Just looking for a bit of light. Thanks
That day, I sent a reinclusion request, got the standard form letter back, to which I replied. No one ever responded, but happily, just yesterday my site returned. Some pages are lower than they've ever been, others are just great.
The lesson for me was I finally got off my ass to find other ways to bring traffic so Google doesn't control my life(um, at least not so much).
quite rediculous how most of us are puppets.....
hmmm, i wonder if the re-inclusion email you sent actually did the trick? What does the standard, initial repsonse from google say?
The initial Google reply to the reinclusion is useless, basically for those that don't have a clue, it gives you a couple links to their help files. BUT, I think anyone that's site has gone should definitely fill in the request anyway.
I am not sure it is the directory that has given you problems. I have a directory also and I actually improved slightly in the SERPs. The only difference is that I do not require a link back. What I do is if they link back to my site (optional), I give them "sponsor" status which lists them higher in the directory. So far I have about 50% of the listings linking back to me.
I have discussed this in other threads. I believe that there might be a penalty or degration of directories that require a link back, but it might be on a sliding type scale. Maybe if you started contacting the webmasters (yes, I know it would be a pain) and asked to have your link removed, it would help. I don't know what else to tell you. Could G be looking at text on your submit page and noting that you require a link back? That would be pretty tough to do. I personally never had a problem with too many incoming links. I have another site that requires a link back that lost a few spots, but nothing as drastic as what happened to you. Problem is that there are a lot of factors blended in the mess. It might be a combination of things.
Just trying to help :-)

That would make a lot of sense, except for the fact that it would be so difficult for Google to know which directories insisted on reciprocal links. More likely, Google would just evaluate the link patterns and give less credit (or no credit) for large numbers of reciprocal links, which would have the same effect in the end.
