On google following the update we have (mostly) maintained our good rankings, except for our MAIN key phrase, where we are languishing on page 5.

Our competitors for this phrase have bounded back up to page 1, but we are slowly sliding further down everyday!

Here are possible problems....
1. we are not listed in dmoz - which results in a lot less links from directory sites that use dmoz results.

2. the page in question for this main keyword does not actually have any IBLs, our IBLs all go to the home page - is this a problem?

3. This page could also have an issue with duplicate content, as in a different area of the site we have a different page (different submenu and heading) but the exact same main content. Could this be classed as a duplicate page that we could be penalised for?

4. We are not in a position to pay for links or offer reciprocal links and have been told not to approach partners or customers for links as it is cheeky, so the only IBLs we have are from directories, and a few press releases we have out.

5. The page has not had any change in the body text for 9 months now.

Which of these factors would affect us? Can anyone suggest a strategy here to get us back on page 1? I am at a loss as to why our competitors have bounded back up to 1st page but we have not!

Also, I have a google sitemap, but it only has the pages in the root directory, plus the sub folders listed - do I need to list every single page I want spidered or is this sufficient? Would this help at all?

Please could you offer some tips I really don't know wher to head from here!

I think DMOZ is overrated.

If you want a ton of spammy sites, and lots of blacklisted sites linking to you - have at it.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing all around - but you get a lot of crappy inbounds from it, and Google has been waving the penalty stick alot lately... it could happen.

Not to mention that DMOZ is corrupt. The things I've seen in their editor forums would most surely bring shame to DMOZ if they got out.

You have likely identified the problems.
To be honest you need to take action.
