Our site has been hit hard with Jagger going back to 8/20. We have made many changes to the site but wish to do more that would require us to move to a new ISP as our current one does not support some of the functionality we wish to have.

We are just beginning to see our content reappering in the serps and I was just wondering if moving to a new ISP could be detrimental.

Thanks in advance...

As long as the new host gives you a fixed IP address of your own, I can't imagine why it would affect your rank at all ... there is a legitimate concern if you are moving to a host with a shared IP; then it's important to be sure your site is not sharing that IP with a site practicing any black hat techniques.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, MJ

Yes, we are doing the same with one of our sites. The ISP did not allow us to have a .htaccess file! for a 301...!

so how can we check if here are "black hat sites" on our shared ip? is that really practical?

I would go with a fixed IP ... most hosts offer it for a couple of bucks more than you'd pay for a shared IP ...

I don't know of a practicaly way to check whether there are Black Hat sites on a host ... though you can check other sites hosted there and see if they are indexed and ranked.

I would also talk to the potential new host about the issue and see what they say ...
