I am undicided if I should keep my main index page as ".html" or change it to ".php" I started to write a lots of news for my web-site and I want google to be able to read news links from my main page. Because my main page was in ".html" for a long time I don't want to get lower PR when I switch ".php"

Other option I have is to create a javascripts that will diplay the news. But with javascripts, basically nothing will change on the main page for a long time as news will be uplaoded through those javascripts. If I keep my main page like that without editing for a long time, woudn't that lower my PR?

you might try setting up your server to parse all .html files through PHP. this can usually be done using a .htaccess file, if you have access to it. do a search for the specifics. it works nice and you don't have to change your filenames. :)

also, once you've gone the PHP-parser route, I highly recommend using Carp to parse and display your headlines. it will read any rss/xml file and is customizable out the ying-yang.

plus, I've found since I did this Googlebot comes by a lot more often cos it looks like fresh content.
