Combating the Duplicate Content Issue

I'm convinced that after this last update my site became a victim to site's which have duplicated my content. I've found numerous paragraphs of my site sitting in quite a few places around the net. I had always ranked close to the top, but now am almost invisible. I've written G, but you know how that goes.

One example, on a forum much like this a person posed a question. Well, one of the forum members searched the net for an answer, found my content, copied and pasted it for an answer thus the duplicate content.

It appears G pays no attention to the original Cached date of the page, or at least it slipped by horribly on my site. I know I'm not the only one here with similiar problems. I'd like to start a meeting of the minds to see if we can't tackle this problem.
