Seems like MSN (through Slate.com) is trying to get the ball rolling on negative press for Google. Can't wait for their story about the Sandbox.

Let's not be too naive about this kind of press. Notice that url? It's slate.MSN.com -- it's not too surprising that a Microsoft property might want to stir up a little dust around Google. That's how the game seems to be played these days.

tedster,
that's true, but so are the points that they are making.
"Not only does Google depend on ads, it relies on one source—AOL—for about 12 percent of its AdSense revenue."
Is google worth $90 billion with all that competition and uncertainties? Remember what happened to ebay when they missed earnings by a penny? It wasn't the penny that caused the 50% or so drop in share price...

Oh yes, not to discount the point at all. Google's dependence on ad revenue is well known (and it was so even when they first went public.) Most people are assume those brilliant PhD people will find more revenue somewhere sometime. They may be wrong, of course.

:o) adsense at the bottom of the page - made me smile!

my thoughts have been for a while that G has been spreading itself a bit thin, there are some important issues that they are ignoring with their main product search.

im not a fan of MS, or at least not of their alleged monopolistic ways, but i think they will give G a big headache with their desktop search, even their results look better for some searches.

add YPN to the equation and i think G is in for a rough time.

just my 2 pence

personally I'm glad this waar is breaking out, better for us as webmasters and web users.

In the interest of full disclosure: I thought GOOG was overpriced at $85. Only time will tell if was right, but meanwhile I could've made a fortune :)
