Scraper Clear Our affect on backwards links

Hi

I've had a couple of sites recently fall in rankings for a very competitive term, they've even dropped right down for an allinanchor: search on the same term.

Could this sudden loss of relevant link text be down to the fact that many scraper sites used to link to the site using the term as anchor text?

Many of these scraper sites appear in Yahoo and MSN backward links look ups but they are not indexed in Google although to be honest I'm not sure how many of them were orginally.

I'm just curious as to whether the clear out could actually have a negative affect on some high ranking sites that may have had a large portion of their link text coming from these scaper sites.

if you are using google's link: command, do not expect to see all the links.

This is definitely possible in theory.

Over the last few days, lots of scraper sites have disappeared from the index.
