Hi. Although my site is indexed by both google and yahoo, it appears much higher with yahoo.
One thing I noticed was, <snip> gets about 89 responses in yahoo and 0 in google.
I have seen both of their bots in my logs.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Shel

Your post is not exactly clear to me,. Are you saying that Y shows 89 backlinks to your site and Google none?

Google doesn't show an accurate count of backlinks -- some say theiur backlink results are for "entertainment." Y, on the other hand, is perceived to be returning an accurate result.

Hope that addresses your question ...

Cheers, MJ

Thanks for responding! What I'm saying is that if you put enter "links:mywebsite" with google I get this message, "your search...didn't match any documents", but with yahoo, I get 194 pages returned.

The main thing I'm trying to understand is why my site appears so well with yahoo in general and so much poorly with google when I see they both bots visit regularly.

I was thinking maybe the links issue had something to do with it.

Google only ever shows a sample of the links that it knows about. Their link counts are also not updated as frequently as Yahoo's.

As for ranking better on Yahoo than Google, most people find, at first at least, that this is the norm. This is mostly due to Yahoo's algorithm being less reliant on links. Your site may also be sandboxed by Google.
